India becomes first country to land near Lunar south pole
ISRO’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 made a soft-landing on the Moon on Wednesday.
With this, India joined the short list of countries in the world to land a rover on the Moon.
Celebrations broke out across the nation after the Chandrayaan-3 lander module succeeded in soft landing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a “historic movement” and said it had sounded the “bugle for a developed India”.
ISRO chief S Somanath said that the toughest moment of the Chandrayaan-3 mission was during the launch itself.
He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to make sure India remains dominant in space exploration and science.
Somanath said that the Chandrayaan-3 had support from ground stations across the world and were giving Isro real-time information and data about the mission.
He said that only India’s space agency can carry out a mission of this scale in a cost-effective way.
Isro chief S Somanath, at a press conference, said that Chandrayaan-3’s Pragyan rover will come out of the lander next. “Looking forward to the exciting 14 days ahead. This is the beginning of the golden era,” he said.
Former Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chief, K Sivan congratulated the Chandrayaan-3 team on the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s south polar region.
“We are really excited…We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. I am very happy,” he told.
