Ilayaraja’s birthday: Fans celebrate with songs, maestro on silent mode

Maestro Ilayaraja is celebrating his birthday today in his house in a silent manner, due to the Covid-19 lockdown. The ‘Isaignani’ would normally meet mediapersons and close associates on his birthday every year.

His fans have been celebrating his birthday on social media by recalling his evergreen songs. Recently, Ilayaraja released a song titled ‘Bharath Bhoomi’ as a tribute to COVID warriors who are fighting against the ongoing pandemic crisis.

The song has been released in both Hindi and Tamil. Legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam has voiced the Tamil version of the song while the Hindi version has Shaan (Shantanu Mukherjee) behind the mic.

Written by Raaja himself, the song sees the legendary composer reuniting with his favourite singer, SP Balasubrahmanyam who has lent his voice for the Tamil version, while the Hindi version has Shantanu Mukherjee as the singer.

The song, which is out on Ilaiyaraaja’s YouTube channel, shows the everyday plight of doctors, commoners and policemen during the pandemic, and is interspersed with visuals of Raaja at his composing table.

Ashwini Choubey tweeted: “#BharatBhoomi a great musical tribute to all #Covid19 frontline warriors by Padma Vibhushan The Maestro Ilaiyaraaja.
