Ilayaraja to construct building for musicians union

Maestro Ilayaraja, at his birthday concert in Chennai on Sunday, has promised that he will bear the cost of constructing the new building for Cine Musicians’ Union.

The highlight of the concert was that the legendary singers SP Balasubrahmanyam and KJ Yesudas sang the iconic songs of Ilayaraja.

Recently, Ilayaraja recorded a song for the movie Thamilarasan, with SPB as the singer. They recorded a melody, Vaa Vaa En Magane, for the lyrics written by Palanibharathi.

FEFSI Siva from the production team, says, “We always wanted SPB sir to sing the song and when this came true, our happiness knew no bounds. It’s a soulful melody… Ilaiyaraaja sir sollikoduthu SPB sir padaruthu paakarathukku… Both of them recalled their days of yore, when they collaborated for songs like Unna Nenachen… and Keladi Kanmani.”

In a recent interview, the Isaignani said, “. To you, I am Raja sir. But I have to think of my next. It’s a constant renewal process. Can someone do music for 24 hours at a stretch and never get tired? It’s me. Because I don’t ‘work’. I enjoy what am doing. It’s not like a regular job. I make music for my fans and it touches their emotions. When I make music, it’s mine.”

Meanwhile, popular celebrities greeted Ilayaraja on his birthday. Here are a few messages: Khushbu Sundar: “The journey of my life, with amount of travelling I have done, as an actor and a politician, one man who has never failed to keep my moods in a good spirit is #Isaignani ..he has made every journey, every moment, beautiful n memorable.. #HappyBirthdayIlaiyaraaja.”
