Ilaiyaraaja shares his views on Artificial Intelligence

As debates around artificial intelligence continue to gain momentum in creative fields, music maestro Ilaiyaraaja has weighed in with his own perspective on the technology. Having witnessed several generations of technological evolution during his long career, the music maestro remains unconvinced by the idea that AI represents an independent form of intelligence.

Speaking in a recent interview, Ilaiyaraaja argued that all knowledge originates from human experience, learning, and observation. In his view, what is often described as artificial intelligence is merely a reflection of information that people have already created and accumulated over time.

The composer questioned whether AI can truly exist without human input, maintaining that technology functions only through knowledge supplied by people. He suggested that AI should be viewed as a human-made tool rather than a separate intellectual force.

His comments arrive amid increasing discussions about the role of AI in music, filmmaking, visual arts, and content creation. While some creators have embraced the technology as a means of enhancing productivity, others remain concerned about its impact on originality and artistic ownership.

Despite completing more than five decades in cinema, Ilaiyaraaja continues to be actively involved in several major projects. His upcoming slate includes Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s next directorial venture, Karthik Subbaraj’s forthcoming film, and Mari Selvaraj’s recently announced Manjanathi.
