I won’t disappoint you, says Rajini; RMM not to support anyone in local body polls

Superstar Rajinikanth has said he would live up to the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu and would not disappoint them. He was apparently referring to his political entry.

In his address at the audio launch of Darbar in Chennai on Saturday, he said, “Director Balachander sir had trust in me and launched me in cinema. His trust didn’t do in vain. The producers’ trust too didn’t go in vain and I similarly, I ask you all to trust me and that too, won’t go in vain. Love is what the world needs right now. We should spread love to live peacefully.”

Heaping laurels on music composer Anirudh Ravichander, he said, “Generally, composers lack story sense. Ilaiyaraajaa is someone who is strong with it. Anirudh has the same quality at such a young age.”

On director A R Murugadoss, he sad, “I enjoyed Murugadoss’ Ramana and asked him if he’s got a script for me but it took so long to materialise.”

Meanwhile, ahead of local body elections in the state, the Rajini Makkal Mandram has said legal action would be taken against those who claim they have Rajinikanth’s support.

Administrator of the outfit, VM Sudhakar said in a statement, “Our beloved leader Rajinikanth has not given his support to anyone ahead of the local body elections that are due in Tamil Nadu.”

He added: “Therefore, if anyone canvasses for votes using the name of Rajini Makkal Mandram, Rajini Fan Club, the flag of Rajini Makkal Mandram, the symbol, name or photograph of our leader, legal action will be taken.”

Rajinikanth announced his political entry in December 2017, and is likely to launch his political party in 2020. He had said he would contest in 2021 Assembly polls.
