With just days before elections in Tamil Nadu, Income Tax department has once again launched searches across the state based on Intelligence inputs of unaccounted cash and group of cash handlers and financiers are mobilising cash from unaccounted sources for possible use in elections in two separate cases.
According to reports, a total of 18 locations in Chennai, Namakkal and Tirunelveli were raided.
Tax sleuths were searching the premises of a contractor firm on charges of routing and possession of alleged unaccounted cash.
The I-T department also searched the office premises and locations owned by two big financiers in Chennai, namely Aakashbaskaran and Sujay Reddy, added reports.
The Chennai investigation wing of the department was searching a group of cash handlers and financiers against whom the sleuths obtained information that they are allegedly “mobilising cash for possible use in elections”.
Searches were being conducted by Chennai Directorate of Income Tax on Friday targetting a group of cash handlers and financiers about whom intelligence inputs were received that they are mobilizing cash from unaccounted sources for possible use in the elections.
