With Income Tax operations contiuning following the seizure of huge money from places linked to DMK’s senior leader Durai Murugan, it is being alleged that the money is part of ‘Operation Blue Sky’ by the DMK to bribe voters for Lok Sabha elections.
According to senior Minister D Jayakumar, “DMK has planned to bribe voters in a big way and has earmarked Rs 100 crore per constituency. They have named it as Operation Blue Sky”.
Reports claimed that stacks of cash worth over Rs 50 crore was recovered from the residence of Durai Murugan’s aide Asgar Ali in Kalpudur in Vellore.
Earlier, stacks of cash was also recovered from a cement godown. The seizure comes just days after I-T officials conducted raids on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
The cash, packed in small bundles marked with numbers of wards and divisions, was kept concealed at a cement godown located in the premises of the residence of DMK’s Katpadi town panchayat secretary Seenivasan, at Karigiri Salai, in Pallikuppam in Vellore district.
Kathir Anand is the son of senior DMK leader and party treasurer Duraimurugan, who was raided by tax officials on Saturday. At least Rs. 10.50 lakh of alleged “excess” cash was recovered from properties belonging to Duraimurugan, including a college owned by Kathir Anand, on Saturday, reports said.
Jayakumar said, “In a press conference two days ago, I had already said that the DMK calls this distribution of money to voters -a blue sky operations.Today it has come true. The DMK has done this blue sky operations in 20 constituencies also. Specifically, they have distributed 100 crores in three areas of Chennai city alone.”
