The meteorological department had warned of heavy rain on Thursday in isolated places over Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem and Namakkal districts. On Friday meanwhile, heavy showers are expected in Nilgiris district.
The district of Salem in Tamil Nadu witnessed heavy rains on Thursday, leading to severe flooding in many areas. Salem town in particular witnessed rains for over two hours, leading to water logging in low-lying areas.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours. According to the RMC, parts of Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem and Namakkal will receive heavy rainfall.
Parts of Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Trichy, Kallakurichi and Dindigul are expected to receive moderate rainfall.
The RMC has forecast heavy rainfall in Nilgiris over the next 24 hours, while parts of Chennai are slated to receive light showers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert over all three of the aforementioned states on Wednesday and Thursday, thereby urging its residents to ‘be prepared’ for rough conditions. On the other hand, the subdivisions of coastal Karnataka and Rayalaseema will be placed under a yellow watch on these two days, with the advisory urging people to ‘be aware’ of the weather situation in their localities.
Thereafter, between Friday and Sunday, all the aforementioned states and subdivisions will remain under a yellow watch.
