The Madras high court on Tuesday called for a status report on the mysterious death of S Subramaniam, who was studying at an engineering college owned by actor-politician Vijayakanth’s family, after his father alleged that it was a case of murder and not electrocution.
Justice P.N. Prakash directed the authorities to file the report by July 12. P. Seeralan, father of S. Subramaniam, a third year mechanical engineering student, has sought a CB-CID probe.
Seeralan moved the court seeking a CB-CID probe into his son’s death. The report shall be filed by July 12, Justice Prakash said.

On April 30 at around 5.30 p.m, a friend of Subramaniam informed Seeralan over phone that his son has suffered an electric shock on the college premises. By the time he rushed to the college, his son had died.
On April 25, actor Vijayakanth’s brother-in-law L K Sudheesh, who manages the college affairs, called Subramaniam over the cellphone of the college principal and threatened him with dire consequences if he continued his political activities.
