HC asks CBCID to submit report in Kavin Murder case within 8 weeks
The Madras High Court has directed the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) to complete its investigation into the murder of Kavin Selvaganesh and submit a final report within eight weeks (two months) .
This directive came after the state government gave an assurance to the court that the investigation would be concluded within that timeframe. The court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition that also sought for a district judge to monitor the probe.
However, the court declined this request, stating that it would affect the independence of the investigating officers, especially since there were no specific allegations against the CB-CID team.
The case, believed to be an “honour killing”, was transferred to the CB-CID due to the seriousness of the crime and the fact that the parents of the main accused are both police sub-inspectors .
An interim compensation of ₹6 lakh has already been paid to Kavin’s family under the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
