Maestro Ilayaraja had an argument at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru on Sunday. The composer and his family were on their way home to Chennai after a temple trip to Mangaluru.
A security officer, apparently unaware who Ilayaraja was, stopped his family members and asked the composer to step aside for further checking, as the luggage scanner picked up broken pieces of coconut in his bag.
The spat got nastier after Ilayaraja’s son Karthik Raja started taking pictures of the security officer with his phone, allegedly angering the official even more.
What happened to Ilayaraja at airport?
“The officer ensured the photos were deleted. The argument went on continuously. I stepped in and told the officers that the person was a legendary music composer with several national awards,” a TV journalist present at the scene said.
After an extended showdown and some intervention from senior officers, a delayed flight left with the composer and his family on board. The incident delayed the flight the musician was to board by 15 minutes.
