“Habeebi” Movie Review

“Habeebi” – A Heartfelt and Beautiful Cinematic Experience

Tamil cinema has explored themes of love, family, village life, religion, and society in many memorable films. Yet “Habeebi”, directed by Meera Kathiravan, stands out with its refreshingly different storytelling and deeply human emotions.

Set in the rural landscape of Tirunelveli district in the 1980s, the film follows the life of a Muslim weaving family — their dreams, struggles, relationships, and the emotional bonds that hold them together. At its core, “Habeebi” is a touching love story, but it grows into something much larger: a moving portrait of family honour, social expectations, and the unpredictability of life.

Kasthuri Raja delivers a remarkable performance as the head of the family. His portrayal of a responsible father weighed down by circumstances is both powerful and deeply relatable. One particularly emotional scene — where he stands helplessly before the townspeople while trying to find a bride for his son — is sure to bring tears to the audience’s eyes.

The young lead, Isha, brings natural charm and sincerity to the role, capturing the innocence and vibrancy of youthful love. Malavika Manoj adds grace and emotional depth, making the romantic portions feel genuine and heartfelt. Every supporting character is carefully woven into the narrative, giving the film added strength and authenticity.

Director Meera Kathiravan deserves special praise for portraying village life without artificiality. The culture, family dynamics, and everyday routines of Tirunelveli are presented with honesty and warmth, making the audience feel as though they are living inside the village itself.

Visually, the film is stunning. Mahesh Muthusamy’s cinematography beautifully captures the earthy charm of the countryside, while Sam C. S.’s music enriches the emotional impact of the story with a soulful background score.

Though the first half takes its time introducing the characters, the second half unfolds with surprising twists and emotional intensity. The climax, in particular, leaves a lasting impression.

“Habeebi”is more than a love story — it is a sincere reflection on family dignity, social pressure, faith, and human emotion. With its realistic storytelling, outstanding performances, and unforgettable emotional moments, “Habeebi” is a must-watch for lovers of meaningful Tamil cinema.

“Habeebi” – a beautiful film that gently touches the heart and stays with you long after it ends.
