Governor to blame for delay in holding convocations to universities: Ponmudy

Tamil Nadu Higher Education minister K Ponmudy on Thursday slammed Governor RN Ravi for the delay in conducting convocation ceremonies at several state universities.

He said that nearly 9.3 lakh students are awaiting convocations.

The minister claimed that as many as 9,29,542 students have been waiting for their degree certificates despite passing and completing their courses.

They are waiting because the convocations weren’t conducted.

Minister Ponmudy charged that the delay in conducting convocations is because the governor wants to bring union ministers and other special guests from North India for the ceremony.

While stating that students who planned for studies abroad have been facing a tough time getting admission, he said, “Convocations for students who passed out in 2022, have not been done in many universities. In some other universities, convocation has not been done for academic years before 2022 also. Students are being affected due to this delay. There is nothing wrong in conducting the convocation with the university authorities and state ministers,” minister Ponmudy said.
