Police have arrested a woman and a man who forced a 75-year-old businessman of Chetpet and his maid to undress at knifepoint and took pictures of him after he refused to give Rs two crore to another businessman.
Police are searching for three others in this connection. A court later sent the accused people to jail.
According to the police, S Chandran (75), the owner of a tea-estate and hotel in Kodaikanal, was a resident of Harrington Road, one of the posh localities in the city. After he left his house on Friday morning, a group of five barged into his bungalow at around 9 a.m.
Awaiting Chandran’s return, they led his brother and two women servants into two separate rooms and locked them inside. Once Chandran arrived, they kept him and two other staff members forcefully in another room.
Manikandan, one of the gang members, and the others demanded Rs 2 crore from Chandran. When he refused, they forced him and one of the maids to undress and `shot’ them in that state. They took another photo of Chandran and the woman member of the gang, both in the nude.
Meanwhile, the maid Rajalakshmi managed to access a cellphone and made a distress call to the police control room. Cops from Chetpet police station reached the spot and rescued the inmates. However, three of the gang members managed to escape while V Manikandan and I Banu were nabbed.
