Four new ministers inducted into Cabinet
Four more new ministers were sworn in by Tamil Nadu governor K Rosaiah at a simple function held at Raj Bhavan, in which chief minister J Jayalalithaa and her cabinet colleagues participated.
Those inducted into the Cabinet were G Baskaran (Sivaganga MLA) as Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board, Bhoodan and Gramadhan; Sevvoor S. Ramachandran (Aarani MLA) as Minister for Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments and Tamil Official Languages & Tamil Culture; Nilofer Kafeel (Vanniyambadi MLA) as the Minister for Labour and Employment; and P Balakrishna Reddy (Hosur MLA) as Minister for Animal Husbandry.
With this the strength of the State Cabinet rose to 33. Of the four one of them was woman. With this total number of women Ministers in the Cabinet rose to five.
The portfolios allocated to the new ministers were originally allocated as additional portfolios to O.S. Manian (Khadhi and Village Industries Board), R. Kamaraj (HR&CE), Sellur K. Raju (Labour) and R. Duraikannu (Animal Husbandry).
On Monday, Hours after being sworn-in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister with a 28-member council of ministers, Jayalalithaa expanded her ministry by inducting four more ministers.
On Wednesday, all the 231 newly-elected MLAs, including Jayalalithaa, DMK President M Karunanidhi, his son and leader of the main Opposition M K Stalin took oath as members of the 15th Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Protem Speaker S Semmalai adminstered the oath to the members on the first day of the first session of the new Assembly. The Assembly hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion.
