Four held for chasing women on ECR, Remanded till Feb 14

Chennai police have arrested four youths for allegedly chasing and harassing two women on East Coast Road (ECR). A magistrate in Sholinganallur has remanded them to judicial custody until February 14.

The incident took place in the early hours of January 25, when a 26-year-old woman from Kanathur and her friend were returning home from Kovalam around 2:00 AM. Their car was allegedly followed by eight men in two vehicles carrying DMK flags.

Near Muttukadu Bridge, the suspects blocked the road with their cars and prevented the women’s vehicle from moving forward. The women managed to escape by speeding away, but the men continued to chase them up to Panaiyur, where they allegedly created a ruckus near one of the women’s houses.

Following a complaint, Kanathur police registered a case under five different sections and formed four special teams to track down the suspects. The police later seized the two cars used in the incident and arrested four individuals, including a private college student.

Investigations revealed that seven men were involved in the chase, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest the remaining three suspects. The arrested individuals were produced in court, and Magistrate Karthikeyan of Sholinganallur ordered them to be remanded in custody until February 14.
