Four held for AIADMK Councillor’s murder in Chennai

Four held for AIADMK Councillor’s murder in Chennai: Four persons have been arrested by the police for the brutal murder of Chennai Corporation Councillor Mullai Gnanasekar in Manali. Interrogations are on with them.

The arrested have been identified as Jebakumar, Rajesh, Rajiv and Prabhu. The city on Saturday witnessed its sixth murder in public view in less than two months.

Mullai Gnanasekar, the AIADMK councillor of Ward 21 in Manali Zone, was brutally hacked to death by a gang near the Manali bus stand on Saturday night.

Tension prevailed in the area and shopkeepers downed their shutters following the incident. Residents gathered in large numbers and buses did not ply for a few hours.

Despite being associated with the AIADMK, Gnanasekar had friends in several political parties. Police said he was earlier with the TMC, the Congress, and the DMK and was the Manali town panchayat president representing the TMC.

Residents who knew Gnanasekar said he was a very friendly person and helped people in need. He was the chairman of Manali Municipality for nearly 10 years and then became a councillor when it came under the Corporation.
