Senior DMK leader and former Puducherry Chief Minister R V Janakiraman died in the early hours of today after prolonged illness.
His health condition remain critical in the recent past and he breathed last at a private hospital in Puducherry during the wee hours of today.
Senior party leaders, including Member of Parliament Kanimozhi, visited him at the hospital in the last some days.
Janakiraman was the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Pondicherry (Puducherry). He was elected from Nellithope Assembly constituency. He served from May 26, 1996 to March 18, 2000.
He was the chauffeur for former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK supremo Karunanidhi, who passed away last year. He was seven time MLA from the same Nellithope constituency.
DMK leaders including party president M K Stalin and others expressed condolence over Janakiraman’s death and paid rich tributes on him.
