Former DMK Minister EV Velu appears before DVAC, faces questioning
Former Tamil Nadu Highways Minister and senior DMK leader EV Velu appeared before the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Chennai on Tuesday for questioning in connection with an alleged Highways Department irregularities case involving an estimated ₹3.23 crore.
His appearance followed a direction from the Madras High Court, which granted him interim relief on the condition that he cooperate with the investigation and present himself before the agency on July 15.
The DVAC is probing allegations that financial irregularities during Velu’s tenure as Highways Minister resulted in a loss of around ₹3.23 crore to the state exchequer.
Velu had earlier been asked to appear before investigators on July 3 but informed officials that he was in Singapore undergoing medical treatment. Following his absence, the agency issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) as part of the investigation.
On Tuesday morning, Velu reported to the DVAC office in Alandur, where officials questioned him and examined records related to the case. His statement is also expected to form part of the ongoing inquiry.
The investigation is continuing under new leadership after the state government transferred DVAC Director ADGP A. Arun to the Tamil Nadu Police Academy earlier this week. Inspector General C. Mageshwari has since taken charge of the anti-corruption agency.
