FIR registered on Meta head over SM posts targeting PM Modi
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against the head of Meta India and several Facebook and Instagram accounts over social media content allegedly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during online discussions linked to protests over the NEET paper leak.
The complaint was filed by Telangana BJP worker T. Saikiran Goud, who alleged that multiple social media accounts circulated morphed photographs and videos of the Prime Minister in connection with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests.
Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation will examine the origin and circulation of the disputed content across Meta-owned platforms.
The development comes shortly after Delhi Police issued notices to several X (formerly Twitter) account holders over allegedly objectionable posts concerning constitutional authorities. A separate FIR was also registered in that matter. In another related case, Noida Police booked a woman over remarks directed at the Prime Minister in a video that gained wide circulation on social media.
Speaking to reporters, the complainant alleged that the online material was unrelated to the concerns of NEET aspirants and claimed the content was intended to portray the Prime Minister negatively. Meta India had not issued an official response at the time of reporting.
