A case of a helpless monkey cruelly tortured, killed and buried has surfaced at Christian Medical College, Vellore.
“They tied her hands and started abusing and torturing her by beating her with sticks and belts, broke her legs, jaws and finally put a rod up her anus and killed her,” Shravan Krishnan, an animal enthusiast posted on his Facebook page.
Four students of the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore were suspended on Wednesday for allegedly torturing and killing a female bonnet macaque. An FIR has been lodged in the matter and the suspended students picked up for questioning.
Sources said the matter came to light when fellow students tipped off a Mumbai-based animal activist about the torture inflicted on the monkey that was buried in the premises. The activist had informed fellow activists in Chennai on Monday.
“A few students had alerted Mumbai-based animal activist Meet Ashar, and he in turn alerted us. The monkey was killed and buried on November 19. They had given specific information on the students involved in the act and the place where the animal was buried. We reached Vellore on Monday night and informed the police and forest departments,” Krishnan said.
According to Krishnan’s post, the tragic event took place on Saturday (November 19). “They tied her hands and started abusing and torturing her by beating her with sticks and belts, broke her legs, jaws and finally put a rod up her anus and killed her,” Krishnan wrote in his post. After the innocent animal was brutally killed, the students buried it in the hostel premises behind the mess.
