The first session of the newly constituted 15th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is commencing at 11 am today, with the customary address by Governor Dr K Rosaiah.
The customary address will be made at 11 am, Assembly Secretary A M P Jamaludeen said here in an official statement.
Rosaiah’s address is expected to have information on implementation of ongoing welfare schemes and on carrying out electoral promises of AIADMK, which was voted back to power in May 16 Assembly polls.
All eyes on TN Assembly session
This would be his first address to the new Assembly, constituted after the May 16 Assembly elections, in which Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa broke the 32-year-old tradition and became the first incumbent CM to retain power by winning back-to-back elections, a feat achieved by MGR, who had won successive elections in 1977, 1980 and 1984.
The session was likely to be brief and was expected to last for three to four days during which the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address would be adopted.
Immediately after taking over as Chief Minister last month, Jayalalithaa began implementing her poll promises and the Governor’s address may have more details related to it.
The DMK emerged as the strongest and largest opposition in the history of the Assembly with a strength of 89 members and its allies, the Congress and IUML won eight and one seats respectively.
