Ex-minister Sarguna Pandian dies in Chennai

Former minister and DMK senior leader S P Sarguna Pandian passed away in the city today. She is survived by son Muthucholan and other family members.

Sources said Sarguna Pandian was unwell and she breathed her last at 3.30 am today. Her body has been kept for homage at her residence at Royapuram. Leaders including Karunanidhi and Stalin have expressed shock and condolence.

Sarguna Pandian is the deputy General Secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu. She was also Social Welfare Minister in the assembly formed after the 1996 election.

She was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in 1989, and 1996 elections.

Her daughter-in-law Shimla Muthucholan was fielded in R K Nagar constituency by the DMK, where Jayalalithaa contested, in the May 16 Assembly elections.
