EVKS. Elangovan finds reason for DMK’s defeat
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS. Elangovan has alleged that the ruling AIADMK was able to emerge triumphant in the just-concluded Assembly elections only because of distribution of money to the electorate.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he rejected the perception that the DMK failed to form the government because of the poor performance of the Congress.
The former union minister said, “we expected to win many more seats but money has played an important part in the elections. Despite this, Congress party stands behind AIADMK and DMK. Considering the circumstances, we are happy with the performance of the party.”
The senior Congress leader also stated that the performance of the party in the recent state assembly elections was a “victory, as it had managed to hold ground amidst blatant money distribution.”
Lashing out at the Election Commission (EC) for its functioning during the polls, he said, “The way the EC worked was unsatisfactory. Now that the polls are over, it must take action those involved in malpractices. If the EC fails to do so, then the Congress party shall protest against this, by joining hands with the people.”
He also welcomed DMK leader M.K. Stalin being elected as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
