Erode East by-poll result: EVKS Elangovan leads by a good margin

The counting of votes for the Erode (East) assembly by-poll result began at 8 am on Thursday and Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan was leading by a fair margin at the end of the fourth round of counting.

Nearly 75 per cent of the 2.27 lakh voters cast their votes in the Erode East by-election held in Tamil Nadu on Monday.

While the bypoll result would have no immediate impact on the State’s present political landscape, it could set the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The election was necessitated due to the death of Elangovan’s son and Congress legislator E Thirumahan Everaa in January this year.

“I’ve already said that the DMK-led alliance will win with a margin of not less than 50,000 votes and trends are indicating it. It will further strengthen our alliance,” Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said on Erode East by-election.
