Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Sunday dismissed as a blatant lie DMK’s commission taunt against the AIADMK government over the Salem-Chennai expressway and defended the Rs 10,000 crore project, saying it would be benefit the people.
He was responding to senior DMK leader Duraimurugan’s reported remarks that the ruling party leadership would get ‘commission’ in executing the green field road project.
The proposed Chennai-Salem greenfield highway, which is objected to by the opposition parties, is a Central government project and the State has a limited role in terms of providing compensation to people, Palaniswami said.
Speaking at a mass marriage ceremony hosted by former minister K P Munusamy to mark the 70th birth anniversary of late AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa in Krishnagiri on Sunday, Palaniswami clearly stated the State government’s role was only to provide compensation to people who would lose their lands to the highway project as it is Centrally-sponsored
When Palaniswami, after participating in the event at Krishnagiri, was returning to the city, he told officials to stop his car when he spotted an accident on the highway at Vadassery near Ambur in Vellore district.
Palaniswami directed officials to immediately rush the injured man to a hospital in the convoy ambulance and render all help.
