Today is the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her party the AIADMK, headed by CM Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, celebrated the day with various events.
The ruling AIADMK appealed to its cadres to celebrate the event by organising blood donation and medical camps and take up welfare activities that would help the poor. Across Tamil Nadu, various events were held.
Top party leaders O Panneerselvam and K Palaniswami led the celebrations by garlanding a statue of the late chief minister at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai.
Chief Minister Palaniswami is the AIADMK joint coordinator while his deputy Paneerselvam is the coordinator. The release said Jayalalithaa had always urged her supporters to shun grandeur during her birthday celebrations and therefore party workers should mark the day by taking up welfare activities that would benefit the poor.
Tamil Nadu government will celebrate Jayalalithaa’s birthday as ‘State Women Children Protection Day’ on February 24, said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday.
“Our State government will celebrate former CM J. Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 24 as State Women Children Protection Day, as she had worked for women and children and had launched many schemes for them,” said Palaniswami in the State Assembly.
Palaniswami announced five schemes for the welfare of destitute girls. In one of the schemes, the state government would deposit Rs 2 lakh to each destitute girl child staying in government homes. The amount would benefit the girl while leaving home and embarking on a new life.
