Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will participate in a Niti Aayog meeting to be held in New Delhi today.
During his visit, the chief minister is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and couple of key union ministers.
The Prime Minister, as chairperson of Niti-Aayog, will address the Chief Ministers of all the States, who are members of its Governing Council.
Palaniswami would make use of this opportunity to also raise other critical issues concerning Tamil Nadu including additional funds to tackle the severe water scarcity in the northern parts of the State including Chennai, and funds for new desalination plants.
Though the CM is going to the national capital for an official purpose, it could also be a politically important one. Already, Palaniswami’s confidantes, SP Velumani and P Thangamani met Union Ministers Amit Shah and Piyush Goyal.
Ahead of his Delhi visit, Palaniswami had an hour-long meeting with Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan in Chennai. He is expected to return on June 16.
At the Niti Aayog meet, Palaniswami is expected to raise a host of issues, especially the pending funds from the Centre under various schemes. It is said he might also ask for additional funds to tackle the acute water scarcity in the State.
