EPS becoming CM is a miracle: Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth has said Edappadi K Palaniswami becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was nothing short of a miracle.

“When he became the CM, many said the rule would not continue for even some months. But it is continuing. So, miracles happened yesterday, they are happening today, and they will happen tomorrow too,” he said amid thundering applause at a concert by maestro Ilayaraja to mark the birthday of Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan.

Last week, Palaniswami continued to target Rajinikanth on his leadership vacuum remark and dismissed the actor’s statement as trivial. “Is Rajini a political leader? He is only an actor. Did any political leader say there is leadership vacuum,” Palaniswami asked.

Aiming to make Rajini’s statement sound less significant, the CM wondered if it was wise to react to comments expressed by persons who are unrelated to politics.

He also lashed out at actor Kamal Haasan after he criticised the performance of the state government. Taking a jibe at the actor-turned-politician, Palaniswami said Kamal Haasan would face the same fate as legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan in politics

“Kamal Hassan is a tall leader in politics. Why did his party skip the by-elections in Nanguneri and Vikravandi? How many votes did his party secure in the Loksabha polls? He has become old and his film opportunities have reduced. That is the reason why he started a political party. It’s his democratic right to start a party. There is nothing wrong with it. But he can’t blame others,” he said.

Palaniswami said the political innings of the Makkal Needhi Maiam chief would also end in a fiasco just as in the case of late thespian Sivaji Ganesan. The CM said Kamal was “a big leader” but then why didn’t his MNM contest the recent bypolls to Vikravandi and Nanguneri Assembly constituencies? Also, what were the votes polled by the MNM in the recent Lok Sabha polls, he asked.
