After several hours of discussion, former Chief Minister and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami was elected the Leader of Opposition in the Tamilnadu Assembly on Monday.
“Party co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami has been elected Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nad Assembly,” the AIADMK tweeted which apparently meant that he has been chosen as the legislature party leader by party MLAs.
The meet of the newly-elected 66 MLAs went on for about three hours
Sources claimed that there was tough competition between party coordinator O Panneerselvam and co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami for the post.
The battle was allegedly over controlling the party as the opposition leader. The OPS team argued that because OPS had agreed to be Deputy CM earlier, he should be made the opposition leader.
However, the EPS faction was able to secure the post.
