EC to probe increase in TASMAC sales
Alarmed by the rise in beer sales in the State by 37 per cent last month, (EC to probe increase in TASMAC sales) election observers monitoring the poll process are looking into the sales as to whether it was due to the election season.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni said, “It is not clear whether it is because of the elections. The election observers are looking into the rise in beer sales by 37 per cent.”
Meanwhile in a statement, he said the Election Commission of India has pointed out that complaints had come in the past that some of the Presiding Officers do not close the EVM by pressing the ‘Close Button’ after the end of poll which can lead to suspicion about manipulation. The Commission has been issuing various instructions in this regard in the interest of free and fair poll from time to time.
To avoid such contingencies during the General Elections to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, 2016, the Commission’s instructions are
reiterated as follows:-
i) All Presiding Officers should close the EVM by pressing
ii) All Presiding Officers should draw a line at the end of poll after
iii) All Presiding Officers should give one attested copy of the
“CLOSE BUTTON” at the end of poll in the presence of all such
polling agents, as may be present. the last entry in Form-17A and should record the signed statement thereafter
