There seems to be fissures in the DMK alliance, with MDMK general secretary Vaiko today saying it is upto DMK president M K Stalin to decide whether the parties are in alliance or not.
When reporters asked him about DMK treasurer Duraimurugan’s recent comment about alliance parties, Vaiko said MDMK cadres are disappointed and hurt by Duraimurugan’s comment.
He was speaking to mediapersons at Pudukottai today before leaving to visit the Gaja cyclone affected areas.
Duraimurugan on Sunday said that as of date, only the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) were allies of the DMK.
“Just because some parties joined hands with the DMK for a common cause, they cannot be called alliance partners,” he said.
“Alliance happens only at the time of elections, and a party could be termed an alliance partner only after it signs the seat-sharing document,” Duraimurugan told The Hindu.
He added that the MDMK, led by Vaiko, and the VCK, led by Thol. Thirumavalavan, were not alliance partners of the DMK, but “friendly parties”.
