‘Dr EPS’ finds his responsibilities increased

Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who on Sunday received an honorary doctorate (doctor of letters) from Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute (deemed university) in Chennai, has said the honorary doctorate had increased his responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the central government had approved the proposal to set up six more medical colleges in the state.

The CM conferred honorary doctorates on DRDO chairman G Satheesh Reddy, music director Harris Jayaraj, actor and dancer Shobana Chandrakumar and chairman and director of Ganga Hospital S Raja Sabapathy.

Palaniswami was conferred the “Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa),” at the 28th convocation of the Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute. This is the first honorary doctorate received by Palaniswami, who became chief minister in 2017.

“It’s a special opportunity to participate in a convocation programme. My responsibilities are more now after getting a doctorate.” He said that the education and more importantly life skills makes students perfect.

Palaniswami greeted the graduating students and others who received honorary doctorates and said it was a moment to take a pledge to fulfil responsibilities towards the growth of the entire mankind.

Late chief ministers M G Ramachandran, J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi had been conferred multiple honorary doctorates by various universities.
