DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s health suffered a setback on Thursday and he is being monitored and treated round-the-clock at his Gopalapuram residence by a team of doctors and nursing professionals from the Kauvery Hospital.
A host of leaders cutting across party lines including Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam along with the other state ministers on late Thursday night met DMK working President M.K Stalin to inquire about the health of his ailing father Karunanidhi at his residence here.
VCK president Thirumavalavan, TMC chief G K Vasan, MNM founder Kamal Haasan and others too paid a visit to Gopalapuram, where Karunanidhi is being treated round the clock by a team of medical and nursing professionals, who are providing hospital-level care at his home.
In a statement issued here, Kauvery Hospital’s Executive Director Aravindan Selvaraj said there has been a slight decline in Karunanidhi’s health due to age-related ailments.
“He is currently being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection with intravenous antibiotics and fluids. He is being monitored and treated round the clock by a team of medical and nursing professionals, who are providing hospital-level care at his home,” he said.
He further said considering Karunanidhi’s health condition, the doctors attending on him have strongly advised restriction of visitors.
Meanwhile, Karunanidhi has entered the 50th year as DMK president today with the party asking its cadres to celebrate the milestone.
“Let us celebrate the golden jubilee of our leader assuming office as party chief,” Stalin said.
In a letter to the party workers, he noted “our beloved” leader shouldered the responsibility of heading the party as its president on July 27, 1969 after the passing away of DMK founder leader C N Annadurai.
