DMK sacks senior leader from party

Former Minister and DMK senior leader Mullaivendhan met AMMK’s Dharmapuri candidate Palaniappan and extended his support to him.

Earlier in the day Mullaivendhan was suspended for violating the party rules and regulations. It may be noted that, a few days ago, Mullaivendhan met PMK youth wing president Anbumani Ramadoss.

In 2014, Mullaivendhan was expelled from the DMK for anti-party activities. Mullaivendhan is permanently expelled as he issued a statement against the party high command when an explanation was sought from him, DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan said.

However, in 2018, Mullaivendhan was readmitted into the party in the presence of party president M K Stalin.

A DMK release said Mullaivendhan and former MLA Nellai V Karuppasamy Pandian joined the DMK at the party headquarters ‘Anna Arivalayam’.

While Mullaivendhan had been the Dharmapuri district secretary, apart from being the information minister in Karunanidhi’s government, Pandian was the powerful party secretary in the socio-politically sensitive Tirunelveli.

Mullaivendan is a three-time MLA. He was expelled from the party in 2014 following DMK’s debacle in the Lok Sabha polls held that year. When the party sought his explanation over some charge related to the party’s poll performance, he had issued a statement against the high command. After expulsion from the DMK, he was with Vijayakanth’s DMDK since 2015.
