DMK RS nominees file papers in Stalin’s presence
DMK nominees RS Bharathi and TKS Elangovan on Thursday filed their nominations for the June 11 Rajya Sabha elections to fill six vacancies from Tamil Nadu.
DMK legislative party leader MK Stalin, deputy leader Durai Murugan, former Union Minister TR Baalu and Rajya Sabha MP, Kanimozhi were among those present. Two other independents have also filed their papers.
Later, Bharathi and Elangovan called on the DMK president M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai.
Bharathi, an advocate and DMK’s organisation secretary, had been chairman of Alandur Municipality in the past, while Elangovan is a former Lok Sabha MP who had represented North Chennai constituency from 2009-14.
Meanwhile, AIADMK nominees, former Minister R. Vaithilingam, former RS member A. Navaneethakrishnan, advocate A. Vijayakumar and S.R. Balasubramanian are likely to file their nominations today.
On Thursday, all four of them called on their party supremo and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in Chennai.
