M Karunanidhi-led DMK today named its candidates for contesting polls for Aravakurichi and Thanjavur Assembly constituencies and for the bypoll in Thiruparankundram Assembly constituency, scheduled on November 19.
According to a party release, K.C. Palanisamy would contest in Aravakurichi, Anjugam Bhoopathy in Thanjavur and P. Saravanan in Thiruparankundram Assembly constituencies. Earlier in the day, senior DMK leaders held an interview with those who sought to contest from these constituencies.
The party retained K C Palanisamy and Anjugam Bhoopathi in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies. The retention comes in the backdrop of AIADMK nominating again its candidates former minister V Senthil Balaji and M Rengasamy in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur respectively.
The elections to these constituencies were rescinded after the Election Commission of India found large scale bribing of voters.
In Thiruparankundram, the party has fielded P Saravanan, who quit MDMK last year owing to differences with the party high command in floating People’s Welfare Front.
All three constituencies are going for polls on November 19 and the results are scheduled to be declared on November 22.
Speaking to reporters today, DMK leader M K Stalin said the government machinery was paralysed in the state, with no progress being witnessed akin to the last five years of AIADMK regime. “Law and order is deteriorating. We will take up these issues with the people and seek votes. If the election is held in a democratic manner, DMK will win the election,” he said.
