DMK marks Karunanidhi’s birthday without celebrations, Stalin visits memorial

Today is the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi. DMK has decided to observe the day as a day to support poor people affected by lockdown.

There won’t be any public meetings to observe the birth anniversary. Last year, the day was observed in a big manner with public meetings.

In view of Covid-19, DMK president M K Stalin has asked the party cadre to observe the day by distributing masks, sanitizers, groceries and other essential items to poor people.

This morning, Stalin visited Karunanidhi’s memorial in Marina and paid tributes. In a statement earlier, he urged the party functionaries to provide food to guest workers, their families and others who are in need of money.

“When he was active, Karunanidhi spent his time for the sake of Tamil Nadu and its people. DMK has been actively providing relief to people who have been affected by the lockdown. The same must continue on June 3 also in memory of our leader,” he added

DMK’s South Chennai district unit on Sunday offered day rations and essentials to 1.33 lakh families in the city. The aid was distributed by party chief MK Stalin in the presence of party members. The assistance was offered at Sholinganallur, Velacherry, Saidapet East, Alandur North and Kalaingar Nagar South areas.
