The M Karunanidhi-led DMK on Friday removed three district secretaries from their posts, ostensibly for not cooperating with candidates fielded by the party and its allies during the Assembly elections.
Namakkal (East) district secretary and former Union minister S Gandhi Selvan, Coimbatore Urban (North) district secretary M Veeragopal and Tirunelveli (West) district secretary PK Durairaj, have been relieved of their posts with immediate effect, and in-charges have been appointed in their place to carry out party work.
In the assembly election, DMK lost almost all the constituencies to AIADMK in Coimbatore district, except Singanallur. Similarly, in Namakkal the party lost most of the seats.

In Tirunelveli district, there were protests against Palayamkottai candidate P M Mohideen Khan. However, Khan won from the election.
In fact, the DMK high command would soon be forming a special team to investigate complaints against several district secretaries.
