DMK announces new date for Mupperum Vizha after Stalin’s illness
The DMK’s annual Mupperum Vizha has been rescheduled for September 19 after the party postponed the original September 15 programme following Chief Minister and party president MK Stalin’s illness.
DMK general secretary Duraimurugan announced the revised schedule on Thursday, September 17. The function will begin at around 5 pm at Kalaignar Arangam in Anna Arivalayam, Chennai, under Stalin’s leadership.
The annual celebration brings together three important occasions for the party: the birth anniversaries of social reformer Periyar EV Ramasamy and former chief minister and DMK founder CN Annadurai, along with the DMK’s foundation day.
The 2026 function was originally planned for September 15 but was deferred after Stalin developed a fever linked to a viral infection.
Stalin had said that he was recuperating at home on medical advice and that several programmes on his schedule had been postponed. He was advised to continue resting for another two or three days.
With the chief minister recovering at home, the party has now fixed September 19 for the celebration. Senior DMK leaders, party workers and this year’s award recipients are expected to attend the event.
