DMK ally Velmurugan at it again, assaults toll plaza staff

Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) party leader T Velmurugan, an ally of the DMK, is seen assaulting staff members of a toll plaza in a latest video which has gone viral.

The video, which was said to be captured by a CCTV camera during the early hours of Tuesday, shows Velmurugan and his supporters refusing to pay toll and involving in an argument with toll plaza workers. Later, they assault the staff members.

This is not the first time for Velmurugan to indulge in such acts. Last year, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi workers vandalised the toll plaza near Ulundurpet in Villupuram while staging a protest against the delay in setting up the Cauvery Management Board.

The party workers, led by Velmurugan, staged a demonstration near the toll gate on the Cauvery issue. When the vehicles started piling up on the highway, the toll plaza employees urged the protesters to move away from the spot. Agitated over this, the party workers damaged the glass pane of the toll plaza. The workers were arrested and later released on bail.

Also, Neyveli police Velumurugan under National Security Act. The former MLA who had been organising a series of recent protests against the Centre and the state on various issues also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.

Also, he was known for his hate speech during the IPL ban in Chennai initiated by pro-Tamil outfits. Velmurugan was vociferous against the Centre and state on issues like Cauvery water management and permanent job for localities in Neyveli Lignite Corporation. His outfit also took part in the anti-Sterlite protests.

Recently, a case was filed against Velmurugan regarding a speech he made in 2018. According to the police, on 29 April last year, Velmurugan had participated in a public event near the Chepauk State Guest House. During his public address, he allegedly said offensive statements against the Tamilnadu Government.
