Divorce proceedings between CM Vijay and Sangeetha adjourned to August

The divorce case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, came up for hearing before the Mahila Court in Chengalpattu on Monday. The court subsequently postponed the matter and scheduled the next hearing for August 7.

The proceedings stem from a divorce petition filed by Sangeetha earlier this year. In her petition, she made several allegations regarding Vijay’s personal conduct and sought dissolution of the marriage. The matter was originally listed for hearing in April. After both parties were absent during the initial proceedings, the court directed them to appear on June 15.

According to the petition, Sangeetha alleged that Vijay had maintained a relationship with another woman, claims that she said came to her attention in 2021. She further stated that despite assurances allegedly given by Vijay, the relationship continued. The petition also claimed that the two were seen together at various public events and trips.

Sangeetha additionally contended that she and the couple’s children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha, experienced embarrassment and emotional distress as a result of the circumstances described in the petition. She further alleged that certain privileges previously available to her were withdrawn and that restrictions were placed on her finances and personal freedom.
