Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal lodged in Tihar jail after court sends him to judicial custody

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who has been remanded in judicial custody till April 15, was taken to Tihar jail on Monday. Kejriwal will be lodged in Jail Number 2, an almost convict jail.

The Rouse Avenue court heard the matter earlier in the day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had asked for fifteen days of judicial custody of Kejriwal who was arrested in the alleged Delhi excise policy ‘scam’ case. The ED had cited his ‘non-cooperative behaviour’.

Jail authorities are expected to verify the demands and privileges that can be granted to the AAP leader, following which a call will be taken if they comply with the jail manual.

A senior official at Tihar jail said his personal data will be fed into the jail system following the frisking process.

Kejriwal’s counsel also moved an application in court to allow him to get access to three books, the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and How Prime Ministers Decide by journalist Neerja Chowdhury, while in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal has been governing Delhi from jail with his wife Sunita Kejriwal passing his orders to his Cabinet colleagues.
