Covid-19: India sees record single-day spike, crosses 20 lakh mark

India has recorded its highest single-day Coronavirus cases so far– 62,538 in the last 24-hours, thus taking the total tally to 20,27,074.

According to the latest health ministry data, India’s recovery rate is over 67% right now while mortality rate among coronavirus cases is at 2.05%.

India has recorded 62,538 new coronavirus cases in the biggest jump in fresh cases till date. The total number of coronavirus cases in India has shot past the 20 lakh-mark and reached 20,27,074. With 886 new coronavirus deaths, India’s Covid-19 death toll has reached 41,585.

The United States has recorded over 160,000 deaths due to coronavirus till now, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. With 4,881,974 positive cases, the US continues to be the worst-affected country followed by Brazil.

Delhi government sent a fresh proposal to lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Thursday seeking his permission to allow hotels, gymnasiums, yoga centres and weekly markets to reopen in the capital. Asking the LG to reconsider his decision, revenue minister Kailash Gahlot argued that the Covid-19 situation wasn’t as bad as earlier and many activities prohibited earlier could now be allowed.
