Covid-19: India records fresh single-day high of 77,266 cases, tally rises to 33.87 lakh

India today recorded a new single-day high of 77,266 cases, taking its Covid tally to 33.87 lakh. Total deaths due to the virus have now risen to 61,529.

According to Union Health Ministry data released this morning, the total coronvirus tally now stands at 33,87,500. The death toll has climbed to 61,529 with 1,057 people succumbing to the diseases.

As many as 25,83,948 people have recovered from Coronavirus and there are 7,42,023 active cases in the country which comprises 21.90 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

Citing that the pandemic cannot be a ground to postpone elections, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking to defer the Bihar assembly polls till the state is declared Covid-free. The Election Commission of India will consider everything, a bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan said.

Meanwhile, the Centre has permitted airlines to serve pre-packed snacks, meals and beverages on domestic flights and hot meals on international flights, according to an official order issued on Thursday. Additionally, it has also directed airlines to put any passenger who refuses to wear a face mask in a flight on the no-fly list, a senior official of the aviation regulator DGCA said.
