Covid-19: Growing cases make Chennai continue as hotspot

After coming down to below 1000 daily cases level, Covid-19 infections are increasing in Chennai once again. Chennai remained the hotspot as it accounted for 1,270 of the fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 1,27,949.

As many as 13,371 people are under treatment in the city.
Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 650 cases. They include 321 cases in Chengalpet, 214 in Kancheepuram and 305 in Tiruvallur.

Meanwhile, claiming that the Chennai model would help control the spread of Covid-19 in Coimbatore, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar on Sunday said that the district administration would go for aggressive testing strategy.

Addressing media, Vijayabaskar said that so far as many as 1.77 lakh samples have been tested in Coimbatore. The district is currently testing around 4,500 samples a day.

The State on Tuesday saw 107 Covid-19 patients losing their lives. With this, the total number of fatalities in Tamilnadu so far to the pandemic has touched 6,721.

On the positive side, as many as 6,998 coronavirus patients were discharged from various hospitals in the State after recovery, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,32,454.

As many 67,888 people were tested. This has taken the total number of people tested in the state to 41,99,492.
