In welcome signs, the fresh and active COVID-19 cases continued to slide in Tamil Nadu with the state on Monday recording just above 3,500 infections and a little over 38,000 people remaining under treatment.
Fresh cases of Covid-19 fell further in Tamil Nadu on Monday, with 3,536 persons testing positive for the infection. Chennai reported 885 fresh cases, after having recorded over 1,000 infections a day for the past few weeks.
According to Tamil Nadu Health Department, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 6,90,936 while the death toll is at 10,691.
A total of 4,515 patients were discharged on Monday taking the count of discharged cases to 6,42,152. However, the state still has 38,093 active cases.
Chennai posted 885 new infections. It was on September 23, the state capital had last recorded less than 1,000 cases (980). On Sunday, it had added 1,036 cases.
With 290 fresh cases, Coimbatore’s tally climbed to 40,108. Chengalpattu recorded 241 cases and Salem 192. There were 172 cases in Tiruvallur and 140 in Tiruppur. Thirty-one other districts had less than 100 cases — Erode (90), Kancheepuram (92), Namakkal (98), Vellore (92) and Thanjavur (83).
Meanwhile, with a spike of 55,722 new COVID-19 cases and 579 deaths, India’s COVID-19 count crossed 75-lakh mark and reached 75,50,273 on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
