Coronavirus: More than 12 under observation in TN, Tamil actor rubbishes rumours

Even as more than 12 persons are under observation for coronavirus in hospitals in Tamil Nadu, a testing facility for the detection of novel coronavirus was unveiled at a premier state-run institute here on Sunday as over 800 people are under observation in homes and hospitals in Tamil Nadu.

The testing facility was inaugurated at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Guindy by state Health Minister C Vijayabaskar who said five blood samples have been received at the institute from the health authorities.

In India, three cases have been reported and now there are rumours of Tamil actor Bonda Mani being allegedly affected by the deadly outbreak.

Tamil news stations and sites have reported that Bonda Mani is admitted into a hospital at Chennai on the feeling of being influenced by Coronavirus. However, the actor has refused the cliams and said he is fit and fine. “I am shooting for a film,” he said.

The deadly novel coronavirus has spread to at least 22 countries. China has reported an increase in fatalities and infections as the virus has claimed over 360 lives, with the number of cases soaring overnight.

Anxiety is growing amidst the evidence that the disease has an incubation period of as long as two weeks before the symptoms start to show.

Coronaviruses are a family of respiratory viruses, named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. Coronaviruses can cause diseases ranging from the common cold to the Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome and the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The Novel coronavirus, nCoV is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. They are notorious for mutating quickly and acquiring new qualities.

Dr. Suneetha Narreddy, Head of Department- Infectious Disease, Apollo Health City, Hyderabad, said, “There is no reason to panic but every reason to take precautions. Given the fact that there are no vaccinations and no known cure for the 2019-nCoV or Coronavirus, you should stay calm, educate yourself about the epidemic, and take necessary precautions.
