Coronavirus: India’s tally rises to 18,03,696 cases

India’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 18,03,696 including 5,79,357active cases, 1,186,203 cured/discharged/migrated. There have been a total of 38,135 deaths, according to the health ministry.

With nearly 53,000 new cases (52,972), the number of confirmed infections in India crossed the 18-lakh mark on Monday. As many as 771 casualties took place in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 38,135. Of the 18,03,696 cases, 5,79,357 are active, while 11,86,203 have been cured.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit are among the top politicians who tested positive on Sunday.

Uttar Pradesh minister Kamal Rani Varun succumbed to the infection. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was discharged after he tested negative, son Abhishek who continues to be positive is still undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital.

Today is the 133rd day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. So far, India has recorded 18,03,695 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 38,135 deaths.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Assam and Karnataka. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 65.8 percent. ‘Unlock 3.0’ is underway.
