A 21-year-old medical student was shot dead by her lover, who was a police constable, after an argument on her birthday, in Villupuram district.
The man was an armed reserve guard and he shot himself in the head after killing her. The armed reserve guard from Erode shot the girl he loved in a fit of rage and then committed suicide.
The victim, aged 21, was studying in a medical college and knew the man through social media. The dead have been identified as S Saraswathi from Anniyur village in Villupuram district and 24-year-old K Karthikeyan from Sathyamangalam of Erode district.
A preliminary inquiry revealed Saraswathi was a third-year medical student in a private college in Chennai and Karthikeyan served in Tamil Nadu police’s special battalion force in Vellore.
It is said the duo was in a relationship for the past four years. He reached her house yesterday and early this morning he gave her few birthday gifts.
Karthik was apparently not happy with some of her friends and wanted her to stop speaking to them. This morning, an argument broke out between the two and Karthik shot at her. Later, he killed himself using the same weapon.
